Toxic Boss Got You Down?

Don't let it affect your relationship with your new manager!

Here are some tips that have come out of conversations and exploration with a few clients recently.

😈 Acknowledge that your new manager is not your old one. Be honest about your work style and expectations, and share some goals. This will build a foundation of communication that will help your new manager understand how they can support you.

🗓 Schedule one-on-ones more frequently to establish a relationship. Be open to constructive feedback and growth opportunities. Remember, trust is built by character AND competence.

🚦 Don't wait for your new manager to be the person you want them to be. Be the person you want your manager and team to be. Focus on building a strong relationship built on trust and respect.

🩺 Be patient with yourself and your manager. Work to let down your guard a bit at a time. Be open to apologizing if/when you react to your new manager in a way that was not earned. Remember, your new manager is still a person and will make mistakes.

Building a healthy relationship takes time, effort, and patience, especially after you've worked with a ☣️ toxic boss.
