I remember when I was teaching my kids to ride bicycles and again when they learned to drive; BE PREDICABLE.
When you’re predictable, people know what you’re going to do. People will understand where you’re going and make decisions for themselves that will (hopefully) keep everyone safe.
Think about the times when you get frustrated with another driver… They’re doing something unpredictable! Turning when they shouldn’t, merging when there’s no space, speeding along then slamming on breaks, etc. It’s good to be predictable on the road.
So what does being predictable have to do with being a good leader?
🎯 Increased trust - your team is more likely to trust you, as your actions are consistent.
🎤 Improved communication - Your team will find it easier to understand the expectations and goals.
🔥 Greater effectiveness - When your team knows what to expect, they can plan and work more effectively.
🤔 Better decision making - Since your decisions are consistent and predictable, your team will feel empowered to make decisions and focus on what’s important.
😎 Less stress - Lets face it, predictable leaders help to create a more stable and less stressful work environment.
There are times in life to be unpredictable; telling a funny story, disrupting the status quo, and taking on challenging projects, but I’ll leave that for another post.
