Leader, Manager; Synonym, or No?

Manager or Leader? Does it matter?

In my writing and thinking I continually use them differently.

I've defined a Manager as someone who manages others and their work. It can feel hierarchical. Task oriented. Process driven.

And I've defined a Leader as someone who leads and inspires others. They have vision. It's not just a position. Long-term. Caring.

These same thoughts are often echoed in other writings, books, and podcasts.

Can it be both? Should we separate the two?

What's important to you about using either Manager or Leader?
